Valencia City Council has released ten recommendations for observing the solar eclipse on August 12 starting at 19:30. These include using approved glasses, the option to view it from home, or the official point at Malva-rosa.
Valencia City Council has published a ten-point guide to ensure residents can safely view the solar eclipse next Wednesday, August 12. This is a phenomenon not seen in the city for over a hundred years, prompting the council to launch a communication and awareness campaign on social media and its website.
The main recommendation is to view the eclipse from your own home, if possible. From balconies, terraces, or rooftops, the start can be observed at 19:30, with totality lasting just a minute around 20:33. If there is no good view from home, the council encourages visiting the Official Observation Point set up at Malva-rosa beach, where Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, Red Cross, and a Violet Point will be present.
Regarding mobility, it is noted that the CV-500 will be closed from 18:00, except for residents, accredited second homes, and public transport. Additionally, the Previfoc level 3 will keep the Devesa de El Saler forest closed all day due to fire risk, allowing access only to beaches and restaurants via main routes. Therefore, residents are urged to leave their cars at home and use public transport or walk.
Eye protection is another key point of the guide. Glasses must be ISO 12312-2:2015 approved and worn throughout the eclipse, from 19:30 until its conclusion an hour later. Looking directly at the sun without protection can cause serious eye injuries, so they should not be removed at any time.
It is also recommended to stay hydrated and protect against the heat: bring water, a cap, sunscreen, and light clothing. The council insists on obtaining information only through official channels to stay updated on the latest news and traffic disruptions.
