Valencia City Council has taken measures to calm traffic on Enginyer Fausto Elío street in La Malva-rosa, with a 17-metre pavement extension that forces a speed reduction.
The Mobility service of Valencia City Council has completed this week the traffic calming works on Enginyer Fausto Elío street, in the La Malva-rosa neighbourhood, with the installation of a 'ear' or pavement extension of about 17 metres in length that breaks the straight line of the road at its intersection with Joan Soriano i Esteve street.
The action, executed through painting and bollards, forces vehicles to reduce speed as they approach the intersection, right in front of a pedestrian crossing that provides access to a children's park. This measure responds to residents' complaints about the speed some cars reach in this stretch.
In addition, parking has been reorganised on Joan Soriano i Esteve street, creating eight parking spaces for cars in a row and four for motorcycles. The motorcycle spaces have been marked next to the pedestrian crossings, a recommendation from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) that is now mandatory under the new General Traffic Regulation (Royal Decree 465/2025, of June 10).
This last measure aims to ensure the visibility of drivers approaching pedestrian crossings, especially to protect the most vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, or those with reduced mobility.
The actions are part of the municipal strategy to improve road safety in the neighbourhoods of Valencia, addressing the demands of the residents of La Malva-rosa.
