The Valencia City Council has activated the Cecopal due to the red alert for high temperatures for this Wednesday. Outdoor activities are suspended, Devesa is closed, and pool hours are extended.
The Valencia City Council constituted the Cecopal on Tuesday in response to the red alert declared by the Generalitat for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19, when temperatures could exceed 40 degrees. The mayor, María José Catalá, presided over the meeting with councillors, municipal services, Local Police, and Firefighters to coordinate the response.
Among the most notable measures, Devesa will remain closed until Friday, August 21, with a ban on access and activities. Additionally, the SideInfo system of the El Saler cannons will be activated as a precaution against the risk of fires.
Outdoor sports activities of the Municipal Sports Foundation are suspended, including classes on the beach. Extraordinary markets in Grao, Benimàmet, Avenida del Cid, and the Paseo Marítimo are also cancelled.
Municipal pools will extend their hours until 21:00, although it is recommended to limit sun exposure and use shaded areas. Climate shelters will open their doors, and the CAES in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Benimaclet, and the Climate Emergency Centre in El Carmen will be operational.
The Torres de Serranos, Torres de Quart, municipal cemeteries, Casal d'Esplai, and Gulliver Park will close from 13:00. Parks and gardens will remain open but subject to westerly wind gusts.
Regarding public works, cleaning workers from contractors will stop at 12:00, and only collection trucks will operate. The asphalt works on Colón and the works on Pérez Galdós and Giorgeta are suspended.
Social Services has already notified users of senior day centres, teleassistance, Menjar a Casa, home care, the Alanna Foundation, and municipal social services centres. The City Council recommends avoiding sun exposure, drinking water frequently, and checking the climate shelter website for more information.
