The daily cleaning operation of the Devesa-Albufera department removed nearly 15,000 litres of waste in July, a 15% increase compared to June. The work focuses on preserving one of Valencia's green lungs.
The Devesa-Albufera department of the Valencia City Council removed around 15,000 litres of waste in the Devesa natural park during July, equivalent to 199 bags of 100 litres, filled to approximately 75%. The total weight of the collected waste reached 755 kilograms, an increase of nearly 15% compared to June.
The operation runs from Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 1:30 pm and on Saturdays from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm, covering four areas of action: wooded areas, the surroundings of car parks and restaurants, residential areas, access to beaches, and the margins of the main roads in the park. The work area extends from the Devesa firebreak to the Gola del Perellonet and from the dune cord to the CV-500 road.
In addition to light waste, workers located several large items of rubbish that were reported to the Devesa incident service for later removal. They also found fishing nets and equipment hidden among the vegetation and at the edges of the Gola de Pujol, which were removed by the team.
The councillor for Devesa-Albufera, José Gosálbez, highlighted that “the best way to protect the Devesa is to care for it every day. We have removed nearly 15,000 litres of waste in just one month, but our goal is to ensure that rubbish never reaches the mountain. This requires cleaning, monitoring, and, above all, civic responsibility.”
Every bag we remove is a victory for the Devesa, but also a reminder that there is still much to be done in terms of awareness. The first step to protecting a natural space does not start with a machine, but with a gesture as simple as using a bin,” he added.
Gosálbez emphasised the City Council's commitment to maintaining the Devesa in the best conditions throughout the year and called on citizens to collaborate in caring for the environment. The conservation of this natural space, one of the most valuable in Valencia, depends both on municipal action and the behaviour of those who visit it.
