The municipality of Paiporta has begun recovery works on the Senior Citizens' Home, damaged by the DANA, with a maximum investment of €286,692.94. The action includes measures to protect the building from future floods.
The rehabilitation works of the Senior Citizens' Home in Paiporta are already underway. The City Council has initiated the works with a maximum investment of €286,692.94, an action that is part of the 26 projects included in the evaluated reports prepared by Tragsatec and presented to the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory for the recovery of municipal infrastructures damaged by the flood.
The building, which serves as a meeting point for the elderly in the municipality, suffered significant damage from the DANA and will now be repaired and adapted to better withstand future flooding episodes. Among the planned measures, the waterproofing of roofs and facades will be reinforced, the most sensitive points to water infiltration will be improved, existing installations will be reviewed, and removable watertight gates will be installed at the external accesses.
The Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Reconstruction, Marian Val, has stated that “we have now reached that moment that all the people of Paiporta were waiting for: the start of the works, a step that the citizens can already perceive in the streets.” Val recalled that work has already begun on the sewage system and the actions at the Occupational Training Centre, and that new actions will be incorporated in the coming months.
The Mayor, Vicent Ciscar, explained that the City Council acted with emergency works to keep this space operational, and that now a further step is being taken with a comprehensive rehabilitation that will not only repair the damage but also prepare the building to face possible extreme weather episodes with greater guarantees. Ciscar emphasized the importance of this place for the elderly in the town, who will be able to enjoy “more modern, safer, and better-prepared facilities for the future.”
The Senior Citizens' Home is a municipal building that combines a historic property, protected with morphological protection status, and a later extension. It houses a café-dining area, training rooms, a hairdressing salon, and a multipurpose room, making it a key space for the social life of the municipality.
During the drafting of the final project, the centre has continued to provide service thanks to the emergency works carried out after the DANA. Now, the works will allow for the repair of facades, roofs, interior finishes, carpentry, and installations, as well as the elimination of dampness, renewal of finishes, recovery of heritage elements, and improvement of the general conservation of the building.
The project also includes a reorganization of the café and dining area to facilitate a more comfortable and versatile use of the ground floor. With this action, the Senior Citizens' Home will recover its optimal conditions for use and will be prepared to continue being a space for coexistence and participation for many years to come.
