Valencia City Council will mobilise around 200 personnel, with drones and water rescue teams on beaches and L'Albufera, ahead of the total solar eclipse on August 12. An 850-metre observation point will be set up at La Malva-rosa and El Cabanyal.
Valencia City Council has finalised this Friday the special security, emergency and mobility device that will be activated for the total solar eclipse next Wednesday, August 12. The councillor and acting mayor, Julia Climent, chaired the coordination meeting where the details of an operation mobilising around 200 personnel were finalised.
The main novelty will be the deployment of drone units and water rescue teams by the Local Police and the Fire Department, both on the beaches of Pinedo and La Malva-rosa and in the surroundings of L'Albufera. In the lake, the rescue boat has been provided by the Devesa-Albufera Delegation.
Climent announced that the establishment of the Cecopal is planned in the days leading up to the eclipse, probably on Tuesday and the same Wednesday, and cited the accumulated experience in operations like that of the Nit de Sant Joan to manage crowds on the coast.
The operation integrates Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, Red Cross, beach services and lifeguards, EMT València, cleaning, health assistance and violet points, among other resources. The coordination will allow for joint monitoring before, during and after the phenomenon.
An 850-metre observation point
The City Council recommends that citizens check if they can see the eclipse from their homes before travelling. To do this, it suggests observing a few days prior, around 20:30 hours, whether the sun is visible on the horizon from their home or a nearby point. In many cases, there will be no need to move, which will help avoid crowds.
Those who cannot see it from home can go to the Official Observation Point set up on the beaches of La Malva-rosa and El Cabanyal, which will occupy about 850 metres of coastline between Séquia de la Cadena street and health post number 3 of Cabanyal. It will have information, toilets, drinking water, bins, police and firefighter presence, Red Cross and Civil Protection resources, and a Violet Point.
The operational command post, medical services and the Violet Point will be located on Séquia de la Cadena street, next to the sculpture of the Dolphins. The extraordinary rescue and lifeguard service on these beaches will operate from four posts until 23:00 hours, with basic and advanced life support ambulances, an all-terrain vehicle, jet skis and a mobile operations centre. Additionally, 20 chemical toilets will be installed, two of which will be adapted.
Public transport reinforcement
EMT València will intensify service from 16:00 hours with around thirty additional buses. Lines 18, 19, 31, 32, 92, 93, 95, 98 and 99, which connect to the beaches, will be reinforced, as well as line 25 towards Pinedo, El Saler and El Perelló, and line 24 will have specific monitoring for El Palmar. The last departures from the coast are expected around midnight.
The council advises planning journeys in advance, using public transport and checking the app and official EMT channels before setting out. In L'Albufera, restrictions communicated by the City Council will be applied to Devesa and its access points.
