The Valencia Fire Service will deploy a special surveillance and water rescue operation at the beaches and l'Albufera due to the total solar eclipse on August 12, which is expected to attract numerous locals.
On August 12, in light of the total solar eclipse, the Valencia Fire Service will activate a special safety device at the municipality's beaches and in l'Albufera, given the anticipated concentration of people wanting to witness the phenomenon. The operation includes the presence of personnel and water rescue boats to act in case of emergency.
The Councillor for Firefighters and Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Caballero, explained this Monday that the device is part of a special plan coordinated with the Official Observation Point, the Preventive Command Post, CECOPAL, and CECOPI of the Generalitat. "It is expected that there will be boats at sea and in l'Albufera, so we have designed a special water rescue operation to ensure people's safety," he noted.
The operation will include two surveillance and rescue boats: one at the North beaches and another at the South beaches. Additionally, a third special boat for l'Albufera has been planned, which will operate in collaboration with the Devesa-Albufera Department. This last boat will be respectful of the lake and its environmental and ecological wealth, according to the councillor.
Access to the Devesa del Saler forest will remain closed throughout the day on August 12, due to the declaration of pre-emergency level 3 (maximum risk) of the Previfoc Plan by the Generalitat for the entire Valencian Community. Access will only be permitted, via the main roads, to the apartments, beaches, and restaurants, and in the latter two cases, access will be limited until 18:00 due to the closure of the CV-500.
Furthermore, the Fire Department has activated the fire prevention device in the Devesa natural park. On that day, water diffusion and cooling cannons in the forest will be activated from early morning to reduce the fire risk.
Caballero has urged residents to plan in advance where they want to view the eclipse and, in case of travel, to use public transport. "We ask residents to check where they want to see the eclipse and, if travelling, to use public transport," the councillor insisted, reminding that Bombers València will focus on prevention so that everyone can enjoy a historic moment.
The special device aims to ensure the safety of people attending the beaches and l'Albufera, an area of special ecological interest. Collaboration between the different administrations will be key to coordinating the response to any incidents during the eclipse day.
