Oliva pays tribute to the dulzainero and musical director Josep Malonda

Oliva pays tribute to Josep Malonda, founder of the Coral Santa Cecília and a key figure in traditional Valencian music, in an event with authorities and family.

Last Saturday, Oliva paid tribute to Josep Malonda Sanchis, founder of the Coral Santa Cecília and a key figure in traditional Valencian music.

On Saturday, August 1, Oliva held a tribute event for Josep Malonda Sanchis, master dulzainero and musical director, in recognition of his career and contribution to the cultural heritage of the municipality. The event, held in the town of Safor, was attended by the mayor, Yolanda Pastor, and the councillor for Music, Silvia Castillo, along with representatives from all political groups.

Malonda is the founder and current director of the Coral Santa Cecília. He was also one of the founding members of the Colla de Dolçaines i Tabalets Sarabanda and, during the 1970s and 80s, took on the direction of the Associació Familiar Banda Artístico Musical d'Oliva.

The tribute brought together family, friends, and representatives from various musical and cultural entities in Oliva. During the event, the councillor for Music highlighted that this recognition aimed to value Malonda's life dedicated to music and teaching, whom she regarded as "a reference for many generations of musicians and a pride for Oliva."

With this tribute, we wanted to acknowledge the career of a person who has dedicated his life to music, teaching, and the defence of our cultural heritage," said Silvia Castillo.

For her part, Mayor Yolanda Pastor thanked Josep Malonda for his years of selfless dedication and his role in keeping the musical traditions of Oliva and the Valencian Community alive.

From the Oliva City Council, we want to thank Josep Malonda for all his years of selfless dedication and for having contributed to ensuring that numerous musical initiatives and traditions remain alive for future generations," affirmed Pastor.

With this event, the municipality recognises a key figure in the dissemination of traditional Valencian music, whose legacy continues to be present in the groups he founded and directed. The Coral Santa Cecília, which he himself directs, remains one of the most active musical entities in Oliva.
