Valencia City Council urges residents to check if they can view the eclipse from their balcony or terrace and to avoid car travel.
Valencia City Council has issued a clear recommendation ahead of the solar eclipse on August 12: check if you can see it from your window, balcony or terrace. The measure aims to avoid unnecessary private vehicle travel on a day when a high influx of people is expected at observation points.
The check should be made from 19:30, when the eclipse is underway, to see if the view is unobstructed or if any buildings, trees, or other elements block it. If it is not possible to observe the phenomenon from home, the council recommends using public transport to the Official Observation Point set up at Malvarrosa beach.
A special operation has been arranged at this location with over 200 security personnel, emergency services, healthcare assistance, civil protection, and a violet point for the prevention of sexist aggression. There will also be an extraordinary cleaning and waste collection operation, with ten 1,000-litre containers along the promenade of the northern beaches and 50 pairs of 120-litre bins for containers and other waste.
The observation of the eclipse must always be done with certified glasses that comply with ISO 12312-2 2015, warns the City Council, to avoid serious and irreversible eye injuries. Those who choose to go to Malvarrosa will have EMT reinforcements on lines 18, 19, 31, 32, 92, 93, 95, 98, and 99.
Additionally, the CV-500 will be closed to traffic from 18:00; only residents with identification and public transport will be allowed access. All practical information regarding schedules, mobility, and safety is available on the municipal website set up for the eclipse.
