The Mislata City Council is organising a public observation of the total eclipse on August 12 at 19:00, with free approved glasses distributed until supplies run out.
On August 12, Mislata will become one of the best locations in the province to witness the total solar eclipse. The City Council has prepared a viewing area in a car park next to Plaza de la Libertad and the Camino del Quint, an elevated and clear spot that will allow for a broad view of the phenomenon.
The activity will start at 19:00 and will include the free distribution of approved glasses with ISO 12312-2 certification, essential for looking directly at the sun without eye risk. Supplies are limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. People over 16 years old and minors accompanied by an adult will be able to collect them.
The council emphasises that the aim is twofold: to bring a historic astronomical event closer to the public and to ensure responsible viewing. A total eclipse like the one on the 12th will not be seen from this area for decades, so the event aims to create a shared experience for locals and visitors.
The event is open and free, and no prior registration is required. The City Council recommends arriving early to secure a good spot and the glasses, as demand is expected to be high. In case of cloud cover, the organisation will assess on-site whether conditions allow for viewing the eclipse, although the forecast indicates clear skies.
