The Municipal Transport Company of Valencia will activate a special service with around thirty additional buses to facilitate travel to the beaches and southern districts during the total solar eclipse on August 12.
The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of Valencia has announced a special mobility plan for the total solar eclipse that will be observable next Wednesday, August 12. The astronomical phenomenon will reach its peak around 20:32 hours and is expected to attract numerous people to the coast and other observation points in the city.
To meet this demand, the municipal company will reinforce its services both in the days leading up to and during the day of the eclipse. The initial forecast includes the addition of around thirty extra buses, although the final scale of the operation will be determined in the days prior based on mobility needs and operational availability.
The councillor for Mobility and president of EMT Valencia, Jesús Carbonell, explained that they are preparing “a wide and flexible operation to facilitate travel during an exceptional day for Valencia.” “We will reinforce the service in the days leading up to, especially on August 12, with more buses, high-capacity vehicles, and technicians and inspectors on the ground; and we will pay special attention to connections with the beaches and southern districts, to offer public transport alternatives to both residents and the many visitors who will come to the city to enjoy the eclipse,” detailed the councillor.
Reinforcements to the beaches and southern districts
The operation will pay special attention to connections with Malva-rosa. To this end, EMT will reinforce the service on lines 18, 19, 31, 32, 92, 93, 95, 98, and 99, which already have a special schedule during August due to the usual increase in demand towards the beaches. Most of this service will also feature articulated buses to increase capacity during peak times.
The 25 line, which connects the city with Pinedo, El Saler, and El Perelló, will also be reinforced, allowing the municipal company to increase public transport options to the main observation points along the southern coast. As for line 24, it will have a specific monitoring and regulation plan to ensure connections with El Palmar. EMT staff will supervise its operation throughout the day and adapt the service according to the demand recorded.
Reinforced service until midnight
The operation will take place throughout the day, although the service will begin to intensify progressively from 16:00 hours, coinciding with the expected increase in travel. The last departures from the beaches will be scheduled for around 00:00 hours, an extension that will allow for the return to various neighbourhoods in Valencia after the eclipse ends.
A specific team of managers, regulation staff, and reserve workers will carry out the operation, to respond to possible sudden concentrations of travellers or unforeseen needs. Resources will also be kept available to reinforce other points if necessary.
For residents of Valencia planning to travel to the beaches or southern districts, the recommendation is to check the updated schedules of the affected lines before leaving home. The municipal company will keep informing through its usual channels about any modifications in the service over the coming days.
