The summer rural maintenance brigades of Sagunto have been working since July 1 on forest cleaning and improving agricultural paths, with 52 labourers and 7 foremen. The plan, funded by SEPE with €365,727, will conclude on September 23.
Sagunto has launched a team of 52 labourers and 7 foremen since July 1 for forest cleaning and improving the agricultural paths within the municipality. The employment plan, subsidised by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) with €365,727, will conclude on September 23.
The total investment for the project amounts to €447,097, of which €81,370 comes from a municipal allocation from the Department of Agriculture. The main objective is to facilitate the location and access of ground firefighting resources to agricultural and forest paths, thereby improving the evacuation of people and materials in case of need.
In addition to fire prevention, the brigades are working on improving the state of the Palancia River's channel to prevent hydrological risks. They are also enhancing visibility and preventing agricultural pest outbreaks in the municipal rural path network, as well as in areas near Calderona and Rubio/Escales.
The tasks include improving drainage in case of rain and applying selective herbicide to hinder the growth of weeds. The specific areas of action are the Old Teruel Road, the Povitxol and Isleta areas, the paths of Llíria and Gausa, Hostalera, Fontanelles, Montíber, and Torreta. Interventions are also taking place in the Acequia del Rey, the Acequia de Gabau, the Almardà-Almenara marsh, and the Salvadanys path.
Among the special tasks, the brigades are carrying out cleaning and clearing work at the Font de Ribera and in several nearby municipal forest plots along the Old Teruel Road and Rubio. They are also repairing potholes throughout the municipal path network and enhancing safety on paths and dispersed areas by installing signage, mirrors, and road markings.
The Mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Ana María Quesada, visited several brigades this morning to thank them for their work.
The work of these brigades is essential, especially for keeping rural paths in good condition. This is particularly important in case of fire because these routes are the entry point to the mountains for firefighters. And an exit route for those living there in case of emergency,” the mayor stated.
For her part, the Councillor for Agriculture explained that the goal is to maintain the municipal path network in the best possible condition:

This year, work is also being done on the bridges throughout the urban framework to improve the state of the Palancia River's channel.
