The Sagunto City Council grants AFACAM two classrooms in its building to enhance services for those with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.
The AFACAM association, which serves individuals with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases in Sagunto, will have two new classrooms in the same building it currently occupies. The Sagunto City Council has made these spaces available so that the organisation can expand its services and improve the quality of care it offers to its users.
Until now, these two classrooms had been used by the Education department to provide reinforcement classes, Spanish and Valencian courses for foreigners, and activities from the Adult Education School (EPA). These activities have been relocated to other municipal facilities, allowing the spaces to be freed up for AFACAM.
The Councillor for Social Services, Nuria Carbó, explained that the grant of these classrooms responds to a long-standing request from the association, which has been addressed thanks to the joint efforts of the Social Services and Education departments. In this regard, Carbó stated that
two new classrooms will allow AFACAM to improve its service and the experience of the users.
The councillor emphasised that this is good news for the individuals and families who live daily with Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. She also noted that this grant is part of other support measures initiated by the City Council, such as repairs made to the association's facilities or the recent installation of a new entrance door, actions funded with public money.
Nuria Carbó also highlighted the gradual increase in the municipal subsidy received by AFACAM in recent years, in order to provide the organisation with more resources and ensure that its work reaches as many people as possible.
AFACAM has been providing an essential and important service with great care and empathy for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive pathologies, as well as for their families for over 20 years.
The association will be able to start using the new classrooms immediately, which will allow it to expand its cognitive stimulation programmes and support for families in the municipality.
