The Lifeguard and Rescue Service of Sagunto conducted a rescue drill this morning with two victims on the coastline, near the Pier, involving the Local Police and a drone.
The Sagunto City Council tested its emergency teams this morning at Puerto de Sagunto beach, close to the Pier. The exercise, organised by the Lifeguard and Rescue Service, involved the rescue of two victims, one conscious and one unconscious, who were located from the control tower and brought to the shore on the lifeguards' jet ski.
The simulation involved the service coordinator, a boat captain, and a drone pilot, as well as the Local Beach Police and the medical technical service. Once on the sand, the Local Police established a safety zone for medical personnel to attend to the affected individuals.
The Mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, and the Councillor for Local Police, María José Carrera, observed the operation to assess the effectiveness of the protocols. Moreno emphasised that “the safety of our beaches is a priority” and that these drills ensure a “quick, coordinated, and effective” response to a real emergency.
For her part, Carrera explained that the exercise allows for improvements in communication between services: “From the intervention of the Lifeguard and Rescue Service to the coordination of the Local Police and the medical assistance from the ambulance. With exercises like this, we identify what can be improved.”
These drills are conducted periodically along the municipality's coastline, which welcomes thousands of bathers each summer. The aim is to shorten reaction times and verify the effectiveness of the action protocols, according to municipal sources.
Today's simulation served to validate the coordination between spotting from the control tower, drone surveillance, and ground deployment. The next drill is scheduled for the coming weeks, although the City Council has not specified the date or the beach.
