The municipality activates the protocol in anticipation of 44 degrees this Wednesday. Sports facilities, the urban forest, and gardens are closed, and climate shelters are reinforced.
The City Council of Alaquàs has activated the emergency protocol in response to the red alert for high temperatures declared by the Emergency Coordination Centre for this Wednesday, August 19. The thermometer is expected to reach 44 degrees between 1 PM and 9 PM, prompting CECOPAL to take extraordinary measures to protect the public.
Municipal buildings will function as climate shelters: they will open during their usual hours and provide chilled water and air conditioning to those in need. Additionally, the council recommends avoiding going outside during the hottest hours of the day and taking extra precautions with the most vulnerable groups.
Closures and suspension of activities
The Urban Forest will remain closed for the entire day until the alert ends. Urban gardens and the municipal cemetery will close their doors at 11 AM, and the area for barbecues will remain closed. Dog recreation areas will not close, but it is recommended to use them only in the early and late afternoon.
The neighbourhood sports facilities in Rollet, El Terç, Bonavista, Llibertat, Costera, and Mariana Pineda will be closed while the alert is in effect. Sports activities at the Municipal Sports Centre of El Terç are also suspended, although the lifeguard service at the municipal pool will be reinforced, which has three new sources of chilled water near the library.
Summer programme, indoors
The programme Apunta't a l'Estiu will not hold any outdoor activities during the alert. All activities will be moved indoors and to the summer pool, spaces that are air-conditioned, as reported by the City Council of Alaquàs.
The council reminds the public that they will be kept informed through the usual channels and offers a series of recommendations to prevent heat strokes: drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine, do not leave anyone in the car, and protect the elderly, sick, and children. They also advise against walking pets during the hottest hours and knowing how to detect the symptoms of heat stroke, such as elevated body temperature, reddened skin, headache, or confusion.
