The Ontinyent City Council has coordinated with Festers a special waste collection system for the Moros y Cristianos festivities, which will include daily collection of all fractions and adjusted schedules in streets with festive events.
The Ontinyent City Council has activated a special waste collection system for the Moros y Cristianos festivities, declared of International Tourist Interest. The measure aims to keep the city in the best condition during the busiest days, as reported by the council following a coordination meeting held this Thursday.
The meeting was attended by the acting mayor, Natalia Enguix; the councillor for Festivals, Fair and Traditions, Ángeles Muñoz; the president of the Society of Festers of the Most Holy Christ of Agony, Ricardo Calabuig; as well as officials from the municipal Department of Environment and the company responsible for cleaning and waste collection services.
The system provides for the daily collection of all fractions: residual, organic, packaging, cardboard, and glass, with the aim of adapting the service to the specific needs of the festivities and facilitating proper waste separation. Calabuig has called for maximum involvement from the groups in the removal of the waste they generate during the celebration days.
Household collection will continue as normal throughout the city. The only exception will be in the streets where festive events take place, where collection will be carried out once the scheduled activity for that day has finished, to ensure both safety and the smooth running of events, as explained by the councillor for Festivals.
Muñoz has also called on large waste producers, especially commercial and hospitality establishments, to strictly adhere to the established schedules. “Waste must be put out before 6 in the morning and one should not be complacent, as the routes and collection times for large producers will be affected by the festive activities,” she warned.
There may be days when the trucks cannot access the lanes after certain hours and if the waste has not been put out on time, it will remain uncollected,” the councillor added.
The City Council appreciates the collaboration of the Society of Festers, the groups, the establishments, and all citizens to contribute to cleaner, more sustainable, and respectful festivities in public spaces.
The residents of Ontinyent should pay attention to the specific schedules during the festive days, especially in the areas of events, to avoid leaving waste uncollected.
