Llíria City Council has initiated 422 sanction files in the last two months against owners who have not kept their plots and land clean, an obligation that officially expires on June 15 and seeks to reduce the risk of summer fires and prevent uncontrolled dumping.
The councillor for Urban Developments and Municipal Waste Services, M. Cruz García, explained that the information and awareness campaign has been continuously developed by the council for years. “Many owners comply with their obligation, but there are still quite a few plots that the inspection needs to continue addressing,” she noted.
The files have been opened both directly by the Local Police and Urban Surveillance, as well as through complaints from residents received via official municipal channels. The regulations apply to individuals and legal entities that own or possess land within the municipal area, and can also affect third parties who dump waste on others' plots.
Among the main obligations is to keep the land free of vegetation and flammable materials, as well as to collect and dispose of waste. The regulation prohibits dumping any type of waste outside designated areas, such as containers or eco-parks, and reminds that the council provides regular collection services for pruning, selective waste, and bulky items.
Fines for failing to comply with this obligation can reach 3,000 euros, depending on the severity of the infraction and if there is a fire risk. The council has already processed various sanctions against owners who have not complied with the regulation.
The measure aims to prevent risky situations such as the spread of fires during the summer, as well as the emergence of uncontrolled dumps that affect the environment and public health. Residents can continue to report abandoned plots through the official channels of the council.
