The Generalitat declares level 3 of pre-emergency due to extreme fire risk for August 12, the day of the eclipse, with restrictions in natural spaces like Sierra Calderona.
The Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response and the Regional Secretariat for Environment and Territory have activated level 3 of pre-emergency due to extreme risk of forest fires for Wednesday, August 12, coinciding with the total solar eclipse that can be seen from Sagunto and the rest of the Valencian Community.
This measure, framed within the Special Plan for the Risk of Forest Fires (PEIF), aims to prevent the extraordinary transit of vehicles and people in natural parks and protected spaces, such as Sierra Calderona, from causing a fire. Usual restrictions of level 3 PREVIFOC and additional ones will be applied.
Among the limitations, the prohibition of circulating on forest tracks and paths with any vehicle, bicycle, or on foot in protected natural spaces stands out, along with the closure of interpretation centres and the suspension of camping and bivouac permits in forested areas and their surroundings. Transit on trails and cross-country is also prohibited, as well as authorised sporting activities in forested areas.
Furthermore, all burning authorisations are suspended, including local burning plans, and lighting fires in forested areas and within a 500-metre influence zone is prohibited. Works and activities in these areas must strictly comply with current regulations.
The Sagunto City Council recommends that citizens stay informed through official sources such as the council itself, AEMET, and 112 CV, and avoid approaching mountainous areas or dry vegetation. Caution with cigarette butts and matches is advised.
For the eclipse, the Generalitat advises avoiding unnecessary travel and, if travelling, to plan the route, carry water and fuel, and not to go to forested areas. Official observation points with limited capacity will be prioritised, and it is urged to follow safety and emergency instructions.
For direct observation of the Sun, it is recommended to use only eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 standard and are in good condition. The pre-emergency will be active throughout the day on August 12, so outdoor plans must adapt to these restrictions.
