The City Council of Alzira is organising a free solar eclipse observation event on August 12 at the Espai d'Oci La Fumiga. Approved glasses will be distributed to registered attendees until supplies last.
On August 12, Alzira will host a free activity to safely observe the solar eclipse, one of the most significant astronomical phenomena in recent years. The event, organised by the Departments of Tourism and Climate Emergency, will take place at the Espai d'Oci La Fumiga, the former fairgrounds of the town.
To ensure the safety of attendees, the council will distribute approved glasses free of charge to those who have registered in advance, until supplies last. Distribution will begin at 18:00, aiming to expedite access and ensure that everyone has the necessary materials before the activity starts.
The event will kick off at 19:00 with an informative talk by Aquaignis, an entity specialised in astronomical outreach and observation. During the session, they will explain what a solar eclipse is, why it occurs, and what safety measures should be followed to observe it. Following this, there will be a guided observation, where specialists will comment live on the different phases of the phenomenon.
The moment of maximum obscuration of the Sun is expected around 20:35. The organisers recommend that attendees bring a mat or blanket to sit or lie down comfortably, as well as mosquito repellent.
To participate, it is essential to register in advance through Tourist Info Alzira, either in person, by phone at 96 241 95 51, or by writing to turisme@alzira.es. Glasses will be distributed on the day of the event, starting at 18:00, exclusively to registered attendees until supplies last.
The activity is free, and attendance will be limited by the number of approved glasses available. Interested parties can obtain information at the local tourist office.
