The acting mayor, Julia Climent, has visited the works at the Malva-rosa centre, which will conclude by mid-September and improve the comfort of its 55 places.
The Valencia City Council is carrying out a comprehensive renovation at the Municipal Occupational Centre Isabel de Villena, located at Isabel de Villena street, 125, in the Malva-rosa neighbourhood, with a budget of €43,493.51. The works, awarded to the company Hemosfer 2009 Soluciones Constructivas, S.L., began on July 20 and are expected to finish by mid-September.
The intervention includes the repair or replacement of flooring in several rooms, the renewal of damaged interior doors, and the painting of walls and ceilings in both the intervened areas and common areas. New awnings will also be installed on the east façade to improve the thermal comfort of the workrooms.
The project also includes the dismantling of existing awning structures, the removal of wooden interior doors and steel exterior doors, the installation of vinyl flooring with a wood finish and skirting boards, and the installation of a new galvanised steel exterior door. When necessary, the leaves and casings of the interior doors will also be renewed.
The acting mayor and councillor for Technical Central Services, Julia Climent, visited the works this Tuesday and emphasised the importance of this municipal investment: “What we want is for users to find the centre much improved, much more comfortable when they return in September, and for everyone to be very happy, as they deserve it. I believe it is a good investment and a necessary improvement.”
The COM Isabel de Villena is a municipal resource aimed at people with intellectual disabilities aged between 16 and 65, with 55 places and services such as job training, psychotherapeutic care, expressive activities, family meetings, transport, and dining. Its goal is to promote the autonomy and capabilities of users, as well as their social and labour integration.
Valencia has three municipal occupational centres: the COM Gravador Planes, the COM Isabel de Villena, and the COM Juan de Garay. All of them offer therapeutic occupation that favours personal adjustment, learning professional techniques, and developing social skills, helping to prevent unnecessary hospitalisations.
