The first comprehensive intervention in over 35 years covers 22,126 m² between Jacinto Benavente and Regne de València. The sound-absorbing asphalt will reduce traffic noise by up to 10 decibels.
The resurfacing of Gran Vía del Marqués del Túria, the first comprehensive action on this artery of Valencia in over three decades, is nearing completion. According to Valencia City Council, the works will conclude in approximately a week, and the horizontal signage has already been repainted: lane separation lines, motorcycle parking spaces, and pedestrian traffic light crossings.
The intervention covers 22,126 square meters between the avenue of Jacinto Benavente and the intersection of the avenue of Regne de València with Ruzafa street. The company Pavasal is carrying out the works, which began on June 22, after the school year ended to minimise disruption in the area.
The municipal budget amounts to €1.24 million. The new surface is of a sound-absorbing type, a material that, according to municipal data, reduces traffic noise by up to 10 decibels, improves grip and road safety, and helps to reduce CO₂ emissions associated with traffic by up to 20%.
The councillor for Urbanism, Juan Giner, has stated that this intervention is part of the strategy promoted by Mayor María José Catalá to extend this type of asphalt to the main roads of the city. “This is an intervention on Gran Vía del Marqués del Túria that has not been carried out for over 35 years,” he recalled.
In total, Valencia City Council is promoting more than 130,000 square meters of sound-absorbing surface in various locations, such as Colón street, the Pérez Galdós-Giorgeta axis, the avenue of les Corts Valencianes, General Avilés, and the PAI of Malilla Sur.
The work schedule has been coordinated with the neighbourhood association of Pla del Remei-Gran Via, representatives of the central commerce, the Mobility Delegation, and the contractor itself. The six EMT stops in the area remain operational until the end of the intervention, with occasional transfers as the works progress, but without eliminating any.
Residents and drivers passing through the affected section will notice a quieter road with better grip, especially during peak hours. Completion is expected next week, with signage already completed.
