Valencia City Council expects the works on the future Municipal Centre for Activities for Seniors in Sant Antoni to be completed by the end of September, and for the facility to open its doors before the year ends.
The councillor for Technical Central Services and acting mayor of Valencia, Julia Climent, visited the construction site of the future Municipal Centre for Activities for Seniors in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood on Thursday, located at number 155 Sagunt Street. The works, which began on July 13, have a budget of €38,400 and a completion timeframe of 60 days.
The project includes the dismantling of false ceiling panels, renewal of the electrical installation and lighting, masonry and carpentry interventions, installation of acoustic panels, coverings, and the installation of a climate control system. According to the council, the expectation is that the works will be completed by the end of September.
Climent highlighted that the future centre responds to “a community demand” and brings this service closer to the seniors of Sant Antoni, who until now had to travel to other neighbourhoods to participate in such activities. The councillor emphasised that the project strengthens local care, creates new opportunities for community living, and promotes active ageing within the neighbourhood itself.
The new facility will have a capacity for around a hundred people and will become the 53rd centre in the municipal network. Its opening will expand territorial coverage and help alleviate congestion in the centres of Orriols and Marxalenes, according to municipal sources.
The Municipal Centres for Activities for Seniors are municipal-owned spaces for meeting, communication, and recreation, aimed at individuals aged 60 or over, retirees, pensioners, and residents of Valencia. The usual programming includes physical maintenance activities, painting workshops, computer classes, photography, choir, or theatre, as well as cultural visits and celebrations.
In the future Sant Antoni centre, the programming may include English, painting, photography, theatre, choir, yoga, tai chi, ballroom dancing, and gymnastics. There are also plans to offer complementary services such as podiatry, dining, or hairdressing at affordable prices.
Meanwhile, the City Council is progressing with the procurement of furniture so that the facilities can be operational before the end of the year. Once the premises are equipped, the process for enrolling new members will open, and subsequently, a board of directors will be elected.
