The Valencia City Council extends the lifeguard service in La Malvarrosa and El Cabanyal until 23:00 on August 12, in anticipation of over 10,000 attendees for the total solar eclipse.
On August 12, the beaches of La Malvarrosa and El Cabanyal will have an extraordinary lifeguard and rescue operation that will extend its hours until 23:00, as announced by the Beaches Department of the Valencia City Council. This measure is in response to the forecast that over 10,000 people will gather at the Official Observation Point (POO) set up to view the total solar eclipse.
The operation is part of the Municipal Action Protocol, which coordinates public services for a high-attendance event. The Beaches Councillor, Mónica Gil, emphasized that “we are anticipating with an extraordinary operation because we are talking about a unique event that will bring together thousands of people on our beaches.”
The regular lifeguard service, which operates during the summer from 10:00 to 20:00, will exceptionally extend until 23:00 at four health posts located on both beaches. To this end, a Basic Life Support ambulance, an Advanced Life Support ambulance, a 4x4 vehicle, two jet skis, and a Mobile Operations Centre will be deployed.
The personnel reinforcement includes three emergency medical technicians, one doctor, one nurse, four post lifeguards, ten aquatic lifeguards, two boat captains, one beach chief, one coordinator, and two operators of the mobile centre. Additionally, seasonal toilets will remain open and twenty additional chemical toilets will be installed, of which two will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The Official Observation Point will be located in the stretch between Séquia de la Cadena street and Cabanyal post number 3, an area of about 850 meters where most of the operation will be concentrated. Informational panels will also be placed with details about the eclipse, the location of health services, and information points.
Mónica Gil insisted that “a responsible forecast is always the best tool to ensure safety,” and expressed hope that the event “will unfold normally, orderly, and under the best possible conditions.” Attendees at the Valencia beaches will be able to enjoy the phenomenon with enhanced services until late into the night.
