Sagunto observes silence for the alleged misogynistic murders of two women in Barcelona and Santander. There have been 33 fatalities in 2026.

The City Council of Sagunto has called for a minute of silence this Wednesday at 12:00 for the alleged misogynistic murders of two women in Barcelona and Santander.

The Equality Area of the City Council of Sagunto has called for a minute of silence this Wednesday, August 5, at 12:00, at the doors of municipal buildings, in condemnation of the alleged misogynistic murders of a 34-year-old woman in Barcelona and another 27-year-old in Santander.

Members of the Municipal Corporation, City Council staff, residents, and community groups gathered to express their condemnation of these new cases. Official data shows that so far in 2026, 33 women have been murdered, while the year 2025 closed with 47 fatalities.

Since 2003, the year when figures began to be recorded, 1,374 misogynistic murders have been committed. Additionally, according to official records, there have been 68 minor victims since 2013 and three murders due to vicarious violence have been recorded in 2026.

The Equality delegation reminds that anyone who suspects a case of violence has a civic duty to call 016 or the emergency phone 112 to report it.

The Women's Attention Service of the Equality Area is available in person from Monday to Friday, through the number 96 265 58 89 or via WhatsApp at 607 248 363 (from 8:00 to 15:00), and also electronically at dona@aytosagunto.es. It is recommended to make an appointment in advance, although walk-ins are also accepted in cases that require it.

The Equality Area reminds that if any woman is in a serious emergency situation, she can call the Coordinating Emergency Centre 112. If she has been a victim of an assault and needs protection, she can contact the National Police (091 or 96 267 00 91), the Local Police (092 or 96 265 54 84), or the Civil Guard (062).

If the person needs urgent help, they can also contact the Centre Dona 24 Hours of the Generalitat Valenciana at 900 580 888, or call 016. The call is not registered on the bill, although it is advised to delete it from the call log of the device.
