The Central Board of Peñas and the Alaquàs Town Hall met to coordinate the 50th anniversary of the Paella Contest, which will include a commemorative book and an exhibition at the castle.
The Alaquàs Town Hall and the Central Board of Peñas are already working on a very special anniversary for the 2026 Festivals: the 50th anniversary of the Paella Contest. The meeting, held last Monday 24th August, served to coordinate the commemorative events.
Attending the meeting were the president of the Central Board of Peñas, José Martínez Medina, and the vice president, Juan Bautista Taberner Andrés, along with the mayor of Alaquàs, Toni Saura, and the councillor for Festivals, Sandra Conde.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the book “Images Tell. The Peñas and the Popular Paella Contest of Alaquàs” has been published, resulting from the joint work of Quaderns d'Investigació d'Alaquàs and the Department of Culture and Heritage.
Additionally, the Castle of Alaquàs will host a commemorative exhibition that will review the five decades of history of this deeply rooted event in the municipality. The exhibition will open on Friday 28th at 19:00 hours.
During the inauguration, attendees will be able to purchase the commemorative copy for 2 euros, an amount that will be entirely donated to Caritas.
With this initiative, the town hall and the peñas aim to highlight a tradition that is part of Alaquàs' identity and that, half a century later, continues to bring together locals and visitors around the paella.
