Valencia City Council has begun placing new climate control units on the roof of the Mercat de Russafa, an initiative that is part of an energy improvement project with an investment of €1.6 million.
Valencia City Council has started the installation of new air conditioning units on the roof of the Mercat de Russafa. The operation, which requires the use of heavy cranes to lift the units to the top of the municipal building, represents another step in the energy efficiency works being carried out at the site.
The project, driven by the Department of Commerce and Markets, involves an investment of €1.6 million. The renovation will replace the eight previous units, which were significantly outdated and difficult to maintain, with new heating and cooling units.
In addition to climate control, the intervention includes the modernization of ventilation systems, lighting, and fire protection, as well as waterproofing work on the roof, improving the carpentry, and replacing the seven automatic access doors. Improvements to finishes and coverings in various areas, including the vitrification of the flooring, have also been planned.
With these works, the council aims to improve the thermal, ventilation, and lighting conditions of the municipal market network and reduce their energy consumption. The work in Russafa has been scheduled to accommodate the daily operation of the market and the activities of the traders.
Since June 22, and while the works continue, the Mercat de Russafa opens from Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM and on Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM, an adapted schedule that allows for continued activity during the summer.
