The Palau de la Música has invested €9.7 million in the staff of the Orquestra de València in 2026, a 76.6% increase from 2021, and has renewed its director for five years.
The Palau de la Música de Valencia has made a historic turnaround for the Orquestra de València in just three years. The investment allocated to the personnel of the symphonic ensemble reaches this year €9.7 million, compared to the €5.5 million allocated in 2021. The increase of €4.2 million represents a growth of 76.6%, the largest rise recorded in the series analysed by the institution.
The Councillor for Culture, José Luis Moreno, has emphasised that investment in personnel is the main focus of the Palau's efforts to consolidate the artistic project of the orchestra. According to Moreno, this budgetary boost allows for improved planning capacity and stability in facing the current and future challenges of the ensemble.
The financial commitment has been accompanied by an unprecedented process of staff stabilisation. Between 2024 and 2026, 29 teaching positions have been announced through ordinary and extraordinary Public Employment Offers, the largest consolidation process in the orchestra's history.
The tests for contrabassoon, trombone, one violin position, two horn positions, and one trumpet position have already been completed. In the upcoming month of September, exams will be held to fill the remaining four violin positions, decisively advancing the execution of the approved offers.
Another significant measure has been the integration into the Autonomous Organisation Palau de la Música of the 14 teachers who were administratively attached to the City Council of Valencia. This unification ends the coexistence of two administrative regimes within the same symphonic ensemble, a historic situation that created differences in personnel management.
The staff has also seen improvements in their working conditions. Notably, there is an agreement to compensate for the acquisition of necessary consumable materials for the professional practice of musicians, a long-standing demand from the group. Furthermore, the Palau continues to promote the coverage of more than twenty technical and support staff positions.
The structural strengthening has been completed with the renewal of the principal conductor and artistic advisor, Alexander Liebreich, for the next five years. This continuity provides stability to the musical project and contributes to the growth and national and international recognition of the ensemble, according to sources from the Palau.
With these measures, the Palau de la Música aims to consolidate a more robust management model and equip the institution with the necessary human resources to address its growing cultural activity. The selection processes will continue in the coming months, with the violin tests scheduled for September as the next milestone.
