The City Council invests €291,917 in surveillance, cameras, and fire detection at the Palau del Marqués de Campo before the temporary exhibition of over 200 paintings by the artist.
The Museu de la Ciutat in Valencia, located in the Palau del Marqués de Campo, is finalising its security measures to temporarily host over 200 works by Joaquín Sorolla from the Hispanic Society of America. The City Council has awarded several contracts to enhance surveillance and modernise the security systems of the municipal building.
The largest action is the modification of the private security contract, signed last January, which involves an investment of €207,178.52 (VAT included). This expansion will increase the presence of security guards, especially during night hours when the museum is closed.
Additionally, Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos SAU has been awarded the improvement of the closed-circuit television and intrusion system for €46,162.69 (VAT included). Meanwhile, Prosegur Soluciones Integrales de Seguridad España SL will renew the fire detection installations for €38,575.94 (VAT included).
In total, the three initiatives amount to €291,917.15, as reported by the Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage, and Cultural Resources, José Luis Moreno. The councillor stated that "this is another step in the commitment of María José Catalá's government to enhance one of the most important cultural projects in the city, which is the return of Sorolla's paintings to the painter's homeland."
Moreno emphasised that the reinforcement aims to "ensure all the conditions that the exhibition of these great paintings by the master of light deserves so that they can be enjoyed by all Valencians and visitors coming to the city."
The agreement for the transfer of the works was signed last January at the Scientific, Literary, and Artistic Athenaeum of Madrid between Valencia's mayor, María José Catalá, and the president of the Generalitat, Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, in the presence of the director of the Hispanic Society of America, Guillaume Kientz, and the painter's great-granddaughter, Blanca Pons-Sorolla.
The Sorollas will be temporarily exhibited at the Museu de la Ciutat before their final destination at the Palau de les Comunicacions. Meanwhile, the security works aim to ensure the paintings' stay at the municipal artistic centre.
