Valencia City Council will allocate nearly two million euros for new improvements at the Palau Velòdrom Lluís Puig ahead of the 2027 European Indoor Athletics Championships, which will return to the city more than two decades later.
Valencia City Council has launched a new series of works at the Palau Velòdrom Lluís Puig to prepare it for the 2027 European Indoor Athletics Championships. The investment is around €1.9 million and includes the construction of an adjacent modular building for athlete warm-up, the renewal of the air conditioning system, and a new sports flooring.
The Councillor for Sports, Rocío Gil, has reminded that the city will host a high-level competition again “more than 20 years later” and described the preparation of a facility that “next year will be home to the best athletes in the world” as a “historic economic effort”.
Additionally, the electronic system for raising the curves of the athletics track will be renewed, allowing it to meet the highest demands of international competition. These actions are in addition to improvements made in recent years, such as LED lighting, energy efficiency, updates to indoor spaces, and fire protection systems.
With this investment, the council consolidates the venue as a reference point for European athletics and ensures it meets the best conditions for one of the major sporting events the city will host in the coming years. The works will be carried out over the next few months, aiming for the facility to be ready for the continental event.
