The summer programme of Ontinyent concludes with full squares and streets, highlighting the tribute concert to Mestre Ferrero with over 800 attendees.
The Cultura de Barri 2026 programme has closed its edition with a massive response from the public, who filled most of the outdoor spaces in Ontinyent during July. The initiative, promoted by the City Council, aims to bring culture to the neighbourhoods and establish itself as a summer event.
The Councillor for Culture, Àlex Borrell, expressed his satisfaction with the programme's development and emphasised that “most of the activities have filled the squares,” a response that, he said, “makes us very happy” and encourages continued efforts in this direction. He also highlighted the involvement of local cultural associations, key to bringing culture to different parts of the city.
One of the most notable moments was the zarzuela performance by Les Arts Volants from the Valencia Provincial Council, which on Saturday, July 11, gathered around 400 people in the parking lot of the Sala Gomis. The singers from the Centre de Perfeccionament of the Palau de les Arts offered a high-level proposal in a unique outdoor format.
The other major milestone was the concert of the four bands from Ontinyent, held last Saturday at the Esplanada Tortosa and Delgado, which brought together over 800 people. The Societat Unió Artística Musical, the Agrupació Musical d'Ontinyent, Tot per la Música, and the Vila band participated in a particularly emotional event.
The concert served as a tribute to the local composer Mestre Ferrero, marking the centenary of his birth. The three parts of the programme were conducted by Jordi Soler (Tot per la Música), Álvaro Gómez (Agrupació Musical), and Juan Miguel Fayos (Societat Unió Artística Musical), allowing the audience to hear his works performed together by the four ensembles.
Borrell explained that the goal of Cultura de Barri is to “complement the usual programming that the City Council develops throughout the year at the Teatre Echegaray and the Sala Gomis” with a summer outdoor offering. In total, the 2026 edition has included around fifteen activities, including performances from Estiu Musical, Ontijazz, and the screenings of Cultura a la Fresca.
The public's response confirms the roots of this proposal, which brings culture closer to the residents of Ontinyent during the summer months. The City Council is already working on new editions to continue expanding the reach of this initiative.
