The Bétera Town Council has set up the Municipal Sports Centre as an emergency shelter for the residents of Gátova evacuated due to the forest fire in the Serra Calderona.
The forest fire declared in the Serra Calderona has forced the evacuation of residents from Gátova, and the Bétera Town Council has responded by setting up the Municipal Sports Centre as an emergency shelter. Red Cross has installed up to 200 beds to assist the evacuated individuals, who can also bring their pets.
By around 8:00 PM, the sports centre was hosting nearly fifty people and a dozen pets from the evacuated areas. The operation includes a team from the Red Cross, a patrol, and the chief inspector of the Bétera Local Police, along with volunteers from the local Civil Protection group of Vilamarxant.
The mayor of Bétera, Elia Verdevío, has expressed gratitude for the “quick response” of the Bétera Local Police, the local Civil Protection group of Bétera, municipal service workers, Autocares Ramón, and the Bétera Agricultural Cooperative in assisting the evacuated residents of Gátova.

Additionally, two patrols from the Bétera Local Police have been dispatched to Gátova to assist in the evacuation and protection of the area, alongside volunteers from the local Civil Protection group of Bétera.
The Municipal Works Brigade has provided tables, chairs, bottled water, and electrical connections, as well as all available personnel to meet the needs of the evacuees. The Bétera Town Council is also coordinating healthcare with the Bétera Health Centre and the management of the health area of the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital.
Local companies Autocares Ramón and the Bétera Agricultural Cooperative have collaborated by providing buses for the evacuation and offering water upon the arrival of the affected individuals at the sports centre. The shelter will remain active as long as the emergency continues, and residents of Bétera who wish to help can contact the local Civil Protection.
