The Local Government Board has given the green light to the reform project for the sports facilities of the Abastos Cultural Sports Complex, with a budget of €18.4 million. The work will renovate pools, rooms, and changing areas, among other areas.
The Valencia City Council has approved the basic and execution project for the comprehensive reform of the sports facilities of the Abastos Cultural Sports Complex, a key municipal facility in the Extramurs district. The agreement was adopted in the last ordinary session of the Local Government Board in July.
The technical document, presented by the concessionaire Abastos Sports Complex SL, includes the activity project and sets a base bidding budget of €18,467,207.07. The initiative contemplates a complete renovation of the sports areas and associated services, aiming to adapt the facilities to the current needs of users.
The work covers the swimming pools, physical and sports activity rooms, changing rooms, administrative areas, the cafeteria, and access and waiting areas. The outdoor spaces will also be improved, with padel courts and training areas, and facilities such as air conditioning, ventilation, hot water production, electricity, fire protection, water supply and drainage, and photovoltaic solar energy will be renewed.
The intervention incorporates criteria of accessibility, safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency, while respecting the heritage values of the complex. The facility, located on Alberic Street, is classified as a Local Relevance Asset (BRL) and is part of one of the most recognizable architectural sites in the Arrancapins neighbourhood.
The execution of the reform and the subsequent management of the facilities will be structured through a service concession contract with execution of works, awarded on April 17 to the company Abastos Sports Complex SL. The concession includes the provision of the necessary equipment to operate the sports centre after the intervention.
With this approval, the City Council consolidates an essential step to initiate the renewal of the sports facilities of Abastos and offer updated, accessible facilities adapted to sports practice. The municipal centre remains closed for the works, which are expected to begin soon.
