The municipality of Alaquàs is under a yellow alert for high temperatures this Monday, August 25. The Emergency Coordination Centre has established level 🟡 for the northern and southern coast of Valencia and the interior, which directly affects the locality.
The alert will be active during the hours of 1 PM to 8 PM, the hottest part of the day. The Alaquàs Town Hall has announced that it will keep citizens informed through the usual channels and reminds that the emergency phone number 112 Comunitat Valenciana is operational for any incidents.
In light of this situation, the Conselleria de Sanitat Universal i Salut Pública has issued a series of recommendations to prevent the effects of extreme temperatures. Among them, it advises avoiding going to parks, gardens, and promenades during peak hours, as well as not walking pets during this time.
They also recommend using sunscreen, protecting the elderly, sick, and children, and keeping homes cool and ventilated. Additionally, they stress the importance of drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol and caffeine, and remind that no one should be left inside a car, including animals.
Symptoms of heatstroke include elevated body temperature, reddened, hot, and dry skin, rapid pulse, headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, and intense thirst. In severe cases, confusion, seizures, and loss of consciousness may occur.
For pets, experts recommend protecting them from the sun in cool places, walking them during cooler hours, and refreshing them by wetting their head, armpits, and abdomen with lukewarm water, never cold. If symptoms of heatstroke are detected, one should consult a veterinarian.
