The Valencia City Council has approved a grant of 80,000 euros annually for four years to Mensajeros de la Paz for the 'La Casita' project, which will assist vulnerable single mothers with children aged 0 to 3 in the Cabanyal neighbourhood.
The Valencia City Council has given the green light this Friday to a grant of 80,000 euros annually for four years – a total of 320,000 euros – to the Asociación Edad Dorada Mensajeros de la Paz Comunitat Valenciana to launch the 'La Casita' project, a support space for vulnerable single mothers with children aged 0 to 3 in the Cabanyal neighbourhood.
The Local Government Board has also awarded the NGO, directly and free of charge, the concession of several facilities in the new Cabanyal-Canyamelar Civic Centre, where the programme will be developed. Among the spaces granted are the multipurpose room, music classroom 2, a dressing room, an adapted toilet, and patio 2.
The Councillor for Social Welfare, Paula Llobet, explained at the end of the meeting that the initiative aims to provide a safe space for childcare while mothers participate in training and job retraining workshops. The goal, according to the NGO, is to "empower mothers as protective figures" so that children can grow up in a stable and stimulating environment.
Every morning, families will attend the centre for a full year. Children will participate in age-appropriate early stimulation activities, while mothers will receive psychological support, social guidance, and training in positive parenting, family organisation, and personal autonomy. The work is structured around three axes: the mother, the child, and the bond that unites them.
The design of the centre pays homage to the old continuous rows of shanties in the neighbourhood, a nod to the identity of Cabanyal that accompanies a project with a commitment to local roots. For the women in the neighbourhood, this initiative represents a concrete response to a growing need: balancing parenting with training and job searching.
The grant is part of municipal policies supporting work-life balance and child protection. The programme is designed to assist single mothers, a particularly vulnerable group, and will be developed in a newly created public facility, reinforcing the network of local social services in the maritime district.
In addition, the Local Government Board has approved two cultural grants. The first, of 25,000 euros, is allocated to the Valencian Academy of Audiovisual for the Microdocumentary and Social Media Pillars Competition in celebration of Santa Cecilia 2026. The second, of 80,000 euros, is granted to the Asociación 10 Sentidos for the 'Naturaleza Viva' project, which includes the celebration of the 10 Sentidos Festival, whose XV edition took place last May.
The festival, known for its commitment to inclusion and diversity, promotes the performing arts with a social and humanitarian focus. These grants, along with that of 'La Casita', reflect the council's commitment to social and cultural support on various fronts.
Families interested in the programme can obtain more information through municipal social services or directly at the Mensajeros de la Paz headquarters in Valencia. The project is expected to start operating in the coming months, once the concession of the spaces is formalised.
