L'Eliana City Council has developed the third edition of 'Empathy, seed of prevention', an initiative that promotes coexistence from childhood in the municipality's schools.
L'Eliana City Council has celebrated the third edition of 'Empathy, seed of prevention', a socio-educational programme that uses empathy as a tool to prevent violence and foster positive coexistence from childhood. The initiative, framed within the Family Prevention Programme, has been implemented in the educational centres of the municipality with students from 5th and 6th grade, as well as incorporating 4th grade groups through shared activities.
During the sessions, the children have reflected on the situations of violence that may occur in their environment, their consequences, and the importance of empathy and respect in conflict resolution. The 5th grade students have designed awareness campaigns aimed at their peers and the adult population through stop-motion videos with messages about respect, coexistence, and empathy. Among the works produced, a piece from CEIP L'Olivera and another from Novaschool Rivas Luna have been selected for dissemination.
Meanwhile, the 6th grade groups have deepened their work from the previous year and have shared an activity with the 4th grade students, becoming positive role models and fostering the transmission of values among peers. The Councillor for Social Services, Isabel Montaner, has highlighted that "preventing violence is not just about intervening when a problem arises, but providing our children with tools to build healthy relationships based on empathy and mutual respect".
With this third edition, the programme consolidates itself as a tool for prevention and education in values that positions children as active protagonists in building a more respectful and violence-free coexistence. The educational centres of L'Eliana are the main setting for this initiative, which seeks a direct impact on the daily lives of the families in the municipality.
The programme will continue its journey in upcoming courses, with plans to expand its reach and continue involving the educational community in the prevention of violence from an early age.
