The Alzira City Council participates in the Repte Mapamundi, a campaign to boost glass recycling during July and August. The municipalities with the best results will receive prizes.
The Alzira City Council has launched a campaign during July and August to promote glass recycling among its residents. This is the Repte Mapamundi, an initiative driven by the Consorci Ribera i Valldigna and Ecovidrio that aims not only to increase the amount of glass collected but also to improve the quality of waste separation.
Enrique Montalvá, councillor for Agriculture and City Services, has reminded that glass is a material that can be recycled almost infinitely without losing quality. Therefore, the campaign proposes a competition among the 51 municipalities of the consortium, divided into three categories based on their population: over 10,000 inhabitants, between 1,000 and 10,000, and under 1,000.
The winner of each category will be determined by the score obtained based on the increase in kilos of glass compared to the same period last year and the improvement in citizen awareness. The prize will consist of decorating the glass containers of the municipality with an exclusive design based on the campaign's image.
The campaign also addresses the most common mistakes still being made when separating waste. As Montalvá points out, rubbish bags, cardboard or organic waste are still found in the green containers. To recycle correctly, only glass bottles, jars, and perfume or cosmetic bottles should be deposited, always without caps or dispensers.
Metal caps must be separated and taken to the appropriate container. Additionally, glasses and cups, glass plates, mirrors, window glass, light bulbs and fluorescents, as well as ceramics or porcelain, should not be thrown into the green container.
On another note, Montalvá has reminded that Alzira has the free Arrepleguem service for the removal of bulky items and other waste. To use it, you must call Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm at 96 241 74 54, and indicate what you want to remove. The service will inform you where and when the items should be left for collection.
