The City Council of Valencia has opened the application period for the vouchers of the ‘Compra en Galdós y Giorgeta’ campaign, which aims to support shops affected by the construction works. A total of 10,598 vouchers of 50 euros are being offered, half of which is subsidised by the council.
The City Council of Valencia has launched the ‘Compra en Galdós y Giorgeta’ campaign to boost sales of local businesses in this area, which is affected by the redevelopment works on Pérez Galdós and Giorgeta avenues. From this Thursday, interested parties can apply for the vouchers through the designated digital platform, with a total of 10,598 shopping vouchers available.
Each voucher is worth 50 euros, of which the buyer pays 25 and the council contributes the other 25. The campaign is aimed at individuals over 16 years old with a DNI or NIE, who can acquire a maximum of one voucher per person. The vouchers are digital and can be used via QR code or through the Valencia Chamber app, with the possibility of splitting the balance across multiple purchases while they are valid.
The application period for the vouchers will remain open until 31 October or until stocks run out. Shops interested in joining the programme can do so until 15 September, and the updated list of participating establishments is published on the campaign website.
The Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, has defended this initiative as a complement to the urban transformation works, which she considers necessary but which generate temporary inconveniences. In this regard, she stated that “the urban transformation works, necessary to improve the city, must be accompanied by measures that support those facing their temporary effects.”
The urban transformation works, necessary to improve the city, must be accompanied by measures that support those facing their temporary effects.
The campaign is part of a broader plan to support local commerce, which has already been implemented in other areas of the city undergoing similar works. The measure aims to mitigate the decline in sales and the loss of visibility for businesses during the redevelopment works, which affect customer accessibility.
The vouchers can be purchased on the website www.compraengaldosygiorgeta.com, where the list of participating shops and the terms of use can also be consulted. This is an opportunity for local residents, who can obtain direct discounts on their usual purchases, and for merchants, who see their situation alleviated during the works.
The initiative has a budget that, although not detailed, is estimated to exceed 260,000 euros, considering the 25 euro subsidy per voucher and the total number of vouchers. This figure reflects the council's effort to support the local commercial fabric.
For more information, interested parties can visit the campaign website or contact the Valencia Chamber, which collaborates in managing the digital vouchers. The campaign will be active until the end of October, giving residents ample time to take advantage of the discounts.
