The I 'Elisa Torremocha' Illustration Award is now a reality. This Thursday, the new call promoted by the Alzira Illustration Days (JIA), with the support of the Culture Department of the Alzira City Council, was presented to the public. The competition was created with a dual purpose: to give visibility to contemporary creation and to honour the figure of a woman who shaped the cultural development of the city.
The award is named after Elisa Torremocha, who led the Casa de la Cultura in Alzira for many years. From that position, she promoted numerous initiatives and supported the birth and consolidation of the JIA itself. Now, her legacy becomes the banner of an award that aims to inspire new generations of creators.
The Culture Councillor, Israel Pérez, explained that this award aims to "recognise the talent of contemporary illustration and, at the same time, preserve the memory of those who have contributed to the growth of culture in Alzira." Pérez added that Torremocha "represents commitment, sensitivity, and passion for culture," and that "it is only fair that her legacy continues to inspire new creators."
A Very Local Theme: Calle Escoles Pies
The first edition of the competition invites participants to illustrate the emblematic Calle Escoles Pies, home to the JIA and the Casa de la Cultura. It is a space that is part of the collective memory and urban landscape of Alzira, and now becomes a source of artistic inspiration.
The call is open to anyone over the age of 18, with no nationality restrictions, as long as they submit an original and unpublished work. The competition will award a single prize of €1,000, and a selection of the submitted works will be part of an exhibition during the Alzira Illustration Days 2026.
Works can be submitted from August 15 to September 10, 2026, exclusively through the form available on the JIA website, where the competition rules can also be consulted. This registration window, lasting less than a month, aims to streamline the process and provide enough time for the selection and setup of the exhibition.
