Valencia City Council launches 'Heat, camera... Action!', a contest open to all citizens until September 30 to capture playgrounds in summer and design cooler, more inclusive spaces.
Valencia City Council, through València Innovation Capital, has opened the registration period for the photography contest ‘Heat, camera... Action!’, an initiative aimed at involving citizens in designing more comfortable, accessible playgrounds adapted to the heat.
The call, framed within the ‘Jocs a la fresca’ project, will be open until September 30, 2026. Families, children, young people, caregivers, associations, educational centres, photographers, and anyone interested in sharing their perspective on public space can participate.
The aim is for the images to reflect how playgrounds are experienced during the summer, identify elements that already provide coolness (shade, vegetation, fountains, comfortable materials), and propose ideas for improvement. The jury will assess artistic quality and the ability to convey ideas about climate comfort, inclusion, and accessibility.
The Councillor for Innovation, Paula Llobet, stated that “innovation also means learning to look at the city differently” and that each photograph “will be a source of inspiration to continue building a more resilient, inclusive Valencia designed for people, especially for children.”
In addition to the prizes, the contest will culminate in an exhibition that will showcase a selection of the participating images, highlighting the citizens' perspective on these spaces.
The photographs will be submitted through the platform set up for the contest. The complete rules are available on the municipal website, where specific categories to recognise children's perspectives are also detailed.
