The Rodà de les Alfàbegues in Bétera unveils on August 15 its 16 specimens named after women, a tribute to the 2026 Workers and female figures in the municipality.
The Valencian town of Bétera celebrated its main day on August 15 with a Rodà de les Alfàbegues that broke records for participation and emotion. For the first time in history, the 16 alfàbegues parading through the streets have been named after women, as part of the 'Va de Dones' initiative promoted by the Town Hall.
After 10:00 am, the doors of the Hort de les Alfàbegues opened to kick off a journey lasting over four hours. Eight specimens accompanied the First Single Worker, Mireia García i Ricart, and another eight accompanied the Second Single Worker, Daniela Ferriol i Fuentes, both sheltered under their traditional hand-embroidered umbrellas.
The mayor of Bétera, Elia Verdevío, dressed in the traditional shirt of August 15, highlighted "the significant value of our Alfàbegues, the most representative and beloved symbol for all the people of Bétera, an icon that is tied to tradition and the foremost representatives of our festivities."
The 'Va de Dones' initiative aimed to pay tribute to the 2026 Workers, their families, and key women in the history and culture of Bétera. The 16 alfàbegues, of colossal dimensions, took to the streets with female names, a gesture that added an even more emotional dimension to the day.
Handcrafted dresses and confetti
The Single Workers wore dresses handmade by expert seamstresses. Mireia García i Ricart debuted a design in pearl white, while Daniela Ferriol i Fuentes chose champagne colour, both in natural silks. The Majorals 2026 completed the look with floral shirts and embroidered handkerchiefs.
One of the most anticipated moments was the confetti shower. 9,000 kilos of multicoloured confetti were distributed along the route, but the climax came at the Placeta del Sol, where the Majorals launched 2,000 kilos of red confetti, the colour that represents their majority this year. In total, over 11 tonnes of confetti covered the streets of Bétera.
The day was attended by the second vice president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Reme Mazzolari, and the general director of Diversity of the Generalitat Valenciana, Stephane Soriano, among other political, civil, and military authorities.
The most emotional encounter
The arrival at the Plaza de la Iglesia was once again the most moving moment. The Married Workers, Nathalie Martínez i Arnal and Gely Garañana i Escribano, dressed in black, waited for the two Single Workers to place the mantilla on them and enter together into the Parish of the Purísima Concepción, where they offered the 16 alfàbegues to the Virgin. A moment they experienced with tears in their eyes.
In the afternoon, the celebration will continue with the solemn procession in honour of the Virgin of the Assumption, culminating with the lighting of the emblematic Coet de Luxe, a unique pyrotechnic piece made for the occasion.
