The Estudiants d'Ontinyent group has presented the 5,000 guides for the Christian captaincy parade, dedicated to Tirant lo Blanc, with the support of the Valencia Provincial Council.
The Estudiants d'Ontinyent group presented this Thursday the 5,000 guides that will allow the public to follow and understand the Christian captaincy parade of the 2026 Moors and Christians Festival. The project, dedicated to Tirant lo Blanc by Joanot Martorell, has been supported by the 1st Vice Presidency of the Valencia Provincial Council.
The vice president of the Provincial Council and first deputy mayor of Ontinyent, Natàlia Enguix, visited the group's premises to check the results of the initiative. Enguix expressed her satisfaction for having contributed to "an initiative that further dignifies a festival that is of international reference," and highlighted that the chosen theme values "the most important book in Valencian literature."

The Christian captain, Ricard Enguix, explained that the choice of Tirant lo Blanc was a decision agreed upon by the group, with the aim of paying tribute to a key work of Valencian literature and reinforcing the dissemination of Valencian. The support of the Provincial Council has been "fundamental" to be able to publish the guides, which will be distributed to the public during the parade.
Each copy is structured in different sheets, corresponding to the various blocks of the captaincy, so that spectators can identify at each moment the scene they are observing. Additionally, the guide includes QR codes that provide access to a website with expanded information about each of the represented passages.
The designer of the graphic project, Alba Sanjuan, explained that the goal was to move away from the conventional brochure to create a "very visual" guide that helps the public interpret the narrative journey of the captaincy. Each block functions as a chapter of Tirant lo Blanc and emphasizes some of the major themes of the work, such as the prominence of women, military strategy, the love between Tirant and Carmesina, or the psychological richness of the characters.
The scriptwriter of the project, Ramon Gómez, noted that the proposal arises from the desire to give greater projection to a work written over five centuries ago that remains fully relevant. Gómez highlighted that Tirant lo Blanc is considered by numerous scholars as one of the precursors of the modern novel, and emphasized that the captaincy aims to bring both the literary significance of the work and its close connection to Valencian language and culture to a wider audience.
