The Local Government Board has given the green light to the technical project to condition and clean section III of the North Collector, with a budget of €4.26 million and a timeline of 22 and a half months.

The Valencia City Council approved this Friday the technical project for the conditioning and cleaning of section III of the North Collector, a key infrastructure for the city's sewage network. The work, which runs from the Cano Molinera junction to the Pinedo Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR), has a budget of €4,259,574.41 and an execution period of 22 and a half months.

The project is part of the cooperation agreement signed by the Generalitat, through the Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery; the Public Entity for Wastewater Treatment of the Valencian Community (EPSAR), and the city council itself. This collaboration between administrations responds to the high level of sedimentation detected in this section of the collector, which has necessitated extraordinary intervention.

The accumulation of sludge and materials has forced the design of a solution that combines the cleaning and unclogging of the conduits with the conditioning of the necessary access points to carry out the work safely. According to the Valencia City Council, the intervention includes the construction of two new access arches, located at kilometer points 1.110 and 2.584, as well as improvements to the existing access points.

These new infrastructures will allow the entry of machinery, the removal of accumulated sludge, and the progressive development of cleaning tasks. Additionally, the project includes the installation of platforms to support sludge containers, improvements to access roads, new doors and closures in the existing arches, and the restoration of affected services and pavements.

The cleaning work plan has been divided into ten phases, which will be executed from downstream to the beginning of the section being worked on. The procedure incorporates pre- and post-inspections using cameras, the dragging of accumulated materials, and their removal to containers for subsequent transport to an authorized management center.

With this technical approval, the Valencia City Council completes a necessary step to advance the processing of a strategic action for the maintenance of the sewage network and the proper management of the city's wastewater. Cleaning the collector is essential to prevent flooding and ensure the proper functioning of the drainage system, especially during heavy rainfall episodes.

The decision of the Local Government Board comes after municipal technicians confirmed the high degree of sedimentation in this section, which affects the hydraulic capacity of the infrastructure. The intervention, jointly financed by the involved administrations, aims to restore the functionality of the collector and extend its useful life.

Once awarded, the work will take place over nearly two years, with continuous monitoring by municipal technical services. Residents in areas near the collector's route may notice some inconveniences during the work, such as noise or temporary traffic disruptions, although the City Council has not yet detailed the exact schedule of the work or the specific impacts.

The North Collector is one of the main arteries of Valencia's sewage network, and its proper maintenance is essential to avoid discharges and health problems. With this action, the city council takes another step in improving the city's hydraulic infrastructures, within the framework of the cooperation agreement with the Generalitat and EPSAR.

The approval of the technical project is just the first administrative step; the next will be the tendering of the works, which is expected to be published in the coming months. Until then, municipal services will continue with the ordinary monitoring and maintenance tasks of the collector to minimize risks.
