Pinedo beach hosts the traditional bareback horse race from August 10 to 14, declared a Provincial Tourist Interest Festival.
Pinedo beach is preparing to host a new edition of the Corregudes de Joies, a tradition with over 180 years of history that will take place from August 10 to 14. The event, which coincides with the main days of the festivities in honour of the Virgen del Rosario, will bring together riders in a unique competition in the Comunitat Valenciana.
The organisation is managed by the Corregudes de Joies and Sant Antoni Abad Association of Pinedo, with the collaboration of the Valencia City Council through the local mayor's office and the Municipal Sports Foundation. The tradition originated among the ancient farmers of the Valencian orchard, who competed to demonstrate the speed of their horses and win the prized joia: a silk handkerchief tied over a laurel crown that was given to a loved one at the end of the race.
Monday, August 10, will be dedicated to preparing the track, weighing and veterinary checks of the animals, as well as the first training sessions. The races will take place from Tuesday, August 11, to Friday, August 14, always starting at 18:00, over a distance of 700 metres on the sand of Pinedo beach, in the La Creu de Conca area. Participants will compete on horseback and without saddles, as tradition dictates. The final day will conclude with the award ceremony.
There will be no race on Wednesday, August 12. The organisation has decided to suspend the scheduled programme for that day due to the total solar eclipse, in order to ensure the safety of participants, teams, and the public.
The Corregudes de Joies of Pinedo were declared a Provincial Tourist Interest Festival in 2022, a recognition of a celebration that helps preserve Valencian cultural and sporting heritage and promotes values such as effort, respect for animals, camaraderie, and the conservation of popular traditions.
Every summer, this event attracts hundreds of locals and visitors who come to Pinedo beach to enjoy a spectacle where sport, history, and tradition come together. Entry is free, and the event takes place in a privileged natural setting, by the sea.
