On August 7, 9, and 11, the Mercat Gardens in Cullera will host the fifth edition of the Open-Air Opera Festival CullerArts, with three nights dedicated to opera and zarzuela.
The Valencian town of Cullera will kick off this Friday the fifth edition of the Open-Air Opera Festival CullerArts, which will transform the Mercat Gardens into an outdoor stage for three nights in August.
The programme will begin on August 7 with L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti, one of the most popular comic operas of the Italian bel canto. On August 9, a grand lyrical gala will be held dedicated to opera in cinema, featuring a journey through iconic titles, and on August 11, La del manojo de rosas by Pablo Sorozábal will close the festival, considered a gem of 20th-century zarzuela.
The councillor for Musical Activities, Juan Carlos Alandete, highlighted that the Open-Air CullerArts is “one of the most special events on the summer calendar” because it brings opera and zarzuela closer to citizens, visitors, and music lovers with “extraordinary artistic quality, at a top level.”
Throughout the year, we offer a stable, diverse, and quality programme that encompasses many styles and reaches very different audiences, and the opera festival has already established itself among these and is another example of Cullera's musical capacity,” Alandete added.
The artistic and musical direction is led by Cristóbal Soler; the chorus is directed by Luis Garrido; and the stage direction is by Diego Carvajal, with the CullerArts Orchestra and Choir.
Tickets are still available, which can be purchased at the Casa de la Cultura, at the box office, or on the website agendacullera.com. Tickets per day cost 20 or 25 euros depending on the area, and there is also the option of a pass for all three days for 45 or 60 euros.
